Sun, Sea, and a Shortened Swim
Now in its fifth edition since debuting in 2022, IRONMAN 70.3 Desaru Coast has become one of the most popular destination races on the Singapore triathlon calendar. It's close enough across the border in Johor to travel to without much fuss, but still a proper away race, with a beachfront swim, an undulating two-loop bike leg out towards Desaru Coast Riverside and up to Sedili Kecil before doubling back through the Tanjung Balau roundabout, and a two-loop run circling past the Ferry Terminal and The Els Club Desaru Coast Ocean Course, finishing near the Anantara.
In a full edition, that's the usual 70.3 spread: a 1.9km swim off Tanjung Balau Beach, 90km on the bike, and a 21.1km run. This year, choppy sea conditions forced organizers to shorten the swim to roughly 1km. Swim splits below are only comparable within this race, and as a result, the whole race is excluded from our all-time rankings and personal bests. It still counts as a real finish on every athlete's race history, just not as a ranked time.
